Our original D-shaped moss pole is designed to become a rootable extension of a climbing plant, not simply something for the stem to lean against.

The open front keeps nodes and aerial roots directly against moist growing medium, while the closed back reduces the amount of moss exposed to surrounding air, helping the pole stay moist for longer and keeping the setup cleaner than a fully open wire construction.

The system is designed for long-term use and can grow with the plant through extensions, standard anchors, self-watering anchors, rapid drippers and wall anchors.

For growers prioritising stability, moisture retention and permanent vertical training, this is the strongest all-round PlantScraper moss pole system.

• Rootable support: Unlike a solid coco or coir pole, it can be filled with sphagnum moss or moss pole filling mix so aerial roots can actively grow into the support.
• D-shaped moisture zone: The closed back exposes less growing medium to the room than a fully open 360° wire pole, slowing moisture loss.
• Large front rooting surface: Nodes and aerial roots remain directly against the moist medium.

Choose the size according to the plant you intend to grow, not only its current size.

• S: 34 × 4.5 cm, for cuttings and very young climbers
• M: 39.5 × 6 cm, for juvenile and establishing plants
• L: 45 × 7.5 cm, for active Philodendrons and medium to large climbers
• XL: 63.5 × 9.5 cm, for large and fast-growing plants such as Monstera deliciosa

If regular propagation, plant removal or frequent restructuring is more important than maximum long-term rigidity, choose front-opening moss poles instead.

Fold the flat pole along the crease lines and close it into its D-shape.

If an anchor will be used, close the pole in the required position:

• S: S
• M: M2
• L: L3
• XL: XL3

Fill the section above the pot with long-fibre sphagnum moss or moss pole filling mix. The section positioned inside the pot should be filled with the same properly aerated substrate used around the plant's roots rather than permanently wet moss.

Secure the main stem with a plant tie, keeping nodes and aerial roots against the pole while allowing petioles and leaves to orient naturally toward the light.

Always water from the top. A rapid dripper makes watering considerably easier and also allows diluted fertiliser to be delivered directly through the pole.

Extend the pole before the newest roots reach the top. Use the same pole size and the same closing position and overlap the new section by approximately 7 to 10 cm.
