In detail

Why this product?

Move water from a reservoir into growing media through capillary action, helping maintain moisture between manual waterings.

Each polyester wick measures 2 m and can be cut into shorter sections for individual self-watering pots, reservoirs or moss-pole setups.

Why it works
  • Capillary water transfer: Draws water from a reservoir towards the growing medium.
  • Polyester construction: Tolerates prolonged contact with water and damp media without decomposing like natural-fibre cord.
  • Cut-to-length format: Allows one 2 m wick to be divided for different pots or supports.
  • Two thicknesses: Accommodate different wick openings and available space.
  • Long-term installation: Suitable for filled pots and moss poles where later replacement could disturb roots or growing medium.

Water delivery depends on the wick’s placement, the growing medium and the vertical distance above the reservoir water level.

Best suited for

Use the wick with:

Both the 4 mm and 6 mm thicknesses fit the PlantScraper self-watering anchor system.

Choose the thickness that fits the wick opening and available space:

  • 4 mm: Requires less space within the opening and growing medium
  • 6 mm: Thicker option that may require a larger opening and more installation space
How to use it

In a self-watering pot

  1. Cut the wick to the required length.
  2. Wet it thoroughly before installation.
  3. Thread it through the pot’s wick opening.
  4. Keep the upper section in direct contact with the growing medium.
  5. Leave enough wick below the pot to remain in the water as the reservoir level drops.

Check the substrate moisture after installation. Adjust the setup if the substrate remains too wet or dries faster than expected.

In a moss pole

  1. Run the wick from the pot or reservoir through the moss pole.
  2. Install it while filling the pole so it remains surrounded by the growing medium.
  3. Keep the wick in contact with the moss or other medium along its length.
  4. Check moisture at different heights, particularly near the top.

The wick may help distribute moisture, but it may not keep a tall pole evenly damp. Continue watering from above when required.

Use sharp scissors to cut the wick into shorter sections.

What’s included

Choose:

  • 1 length: One continuous 2 m wick
  • 6 lengths: Six separate 2 m wicks, 12 m in total
