When to use sphagnum moss and tree fern fiber?
Sphagnum moss is ideal as a substrate media for propagation or as a filler for moss poles. It can also be added as a complement in mixes that require high degrees of moisture.
On the other hand, tree fern fiber is perfect for acclimating plants once you bring them home, particularly anthuriums. In this case, you can plant the newbies directly in tree fern. Fern can also be used for propagation or as a premium addition to other substrates, and it works well as a standalone medium too. Fern is one of the most complete, versatile and outperforming substances for our plans.
Discover alternative materials for your moss poles
The term "moss poles" might suggest that these structures should only be filled with moss. However, we prefer the term "media poles," which better reflects their versatility, even though it's not commonly used in the market. That's why we still refer to them as moss poles, but the more accurate term is media poles. You can use various media in these poles, and we actually recommend using a moss pole mix instead of just sphagnum moss, as it enhances water retention and airflow. Don’t hesitate to experiment and help your plants reach new heights.
What's the life expectancy of your substrates?
1 to 3 years.
The vital role of sustainability
Traditional substrates often rely on non-renewable resources and harmful harvesting practices, leading to ecosystem damage and increased carbon emissions. That’s why it’s essential to choose substrates with sustainability in mind to protect our environment.
At PlantScraper, we prioritize sustainability by using renewable, ethically sourced materials, specially with our most sensitive ingredients, which are Sphagnum Moss from Chile, Tree Fern Fiber from New Zealand, and Peat Moss from Germany. We know that these ingredients are responsibly and ecologically harvested. Additionally, our hand-mixed production process minimizes waste and energy use, ensuring our products nurture both your plants and the planet.
At the end of the day, it’s not just our houseplants that deserve the best care—it's also the plants out there in nature, doing the hard work to sustain our world!
