Aroid Mix
Which aroid mix is best for your aroids?
Using an aroid mix tailored to the needs of your aroid plants ensures they receive the right balance of moisture, air, and nutrients, leading to healthier growth, fewer problems, and a thriving plant.
Discover which aroid mix will help your plants the best:
Core Mix
Best suited for philodendrons, monsteras, pothos, syngonium, basic-care anthuriums, and some alocasia species.
Our aroid core mix is ideal for general houseplants with moderate moisture requirements. You can also use it as an aroid base mix for DIY aroid mixes that fits your preference in regard to its chunkiness, water retention, and fertility.
🌱 Components: Slightly decomposed raised-bog peat (white peat), strongly decomposed raised-bog peat (black peat), perlite, garden lime, top-quality compound fertilizer, trichoderma natural microorganisms & micro-nutrient fertilizer.
Chunky Mix
This mix is best suited for monsteras, epipremnum, scindapsus, anthurium with higher aeration needs, and certain alocasias and philodendrons that prefer chunkier substrates.
🌱 Components: core mix, pine bark, coir chips, perlite, garden lime, trichoderma, top quality organic fertilizers.
Tree Fern Mix
This mix is ideal for high-end, delicate, or rare aroids that require the perfect balance of moisture retention, aeration, and nutrition.
It's best for rare or sensitive philodendrons, anthuriums (especially those with higher demands like anthurium clarinervium), high-end alocasias, and other rare aroids like piper or rhaphidophora species.
🌱 Components: fern tree, core mix, pine bark, coir chips, perlite, garden lime, trichoderma, top quality organic fertilizers.
Designed to meet the growth fundamentals
✅ Improved Drainage: our aroid mixes are designed to provide excellent drainage. They typically contain a combination of chunky ingredients like orchid bark or perlite, depending on the formula you are choosing. This ensures that water flows through the soil quickly, preventing waterlogging, which can lead to root rot—a common problem with aroids in regular potting soil.
✅ Enhanced Aeration: the chunky nature of all our aroid mixes promotes better aeration around the plant's roots. Good air circulation helps to prevent fungal infections and allows roots to breathe, which is essential for healthy growth.
✅ Moisture Retention: while all aroid mixes provide good drainage, we also made sure our formulas retain some moisture, which is crucial for aroids that prefer a balance of moisture without being too wet.
✅ Nutrient Availability: our aroid mixes are enriched with organic matter like compost, which provide essential nutrients. This makes our mixes not only supportive for root structure but also beneficial for overall plant nutrition.
✅ Mimicking Natural Habitat: in the wild, aroids often grow as epiphytes or semi-epiphytes, with their roots exposed to air and attached to trees. The texture of our blends mimic these conditions, helping the plants feel more at home, which can lead to better growth and overall health.
✅ pH Balance: our substrtes are formulated to maintain a slightly acidic pH, which is ideal for aroids. This helps optimize nutrient uptake and overall plant health.
✅ Reduced Risk of Pests and Diseases: because of the nature of our mixes, which makes them less likely to retain excess moisture, it reduces the risk of pests that thrive in damp environments, such as fungus gnats. A well-aerated environment also discourages the growth of pathogens that cause root diseases.
✅ Support for Root Growth: the structure of our mixes encourages strong root development by allowing roots to spread out and explore. This can lead to a more robust plant with better resilience to environmental stresses.
