In detail

Why this product?

PlantScraper classic moss poles give climbing houseplants a moist, rootable growing medium, not simply a surface for the stem to lean against. Aerial roots can grow into the filling, adding an active root zone along the plant’s stem.

The D-shaped design combines an open rooting face with a closed back. It retains moisture and contains the filling more effectively than a fully open DIY wire pole, while providing far more rootable volume than a solid coco pole or ordinary plant stake.

Each section is extendable and connects by overlapping another pole of the same size and closing position. No small connector, screw or cable tie is needed between sections.

Why it works
  • Rootable open front: Keeps moist growing medium directly behind the stem so new aerial roots can enter it.
  • Closed D-shaped back: Helps retain moisture, reduces mess and creates a more rigid structure than a fully open mesh pole.
  • Adjustable depth: M has three closing positions; L and XL have four. S has one fixed position.
  • Stable overlapping extensions: Add an identical section as the plant climbs, with approximately 7–10 cm of overlap.
  • Purpose-selected materials: Crystal-clear poles are PET. Clear matte, white and black poles are polypropylene. Both are suitable for repeated indoor exposure to moisture.
  • Complete matched system: Compatible classic anchors, standard aroid pots, classic rapid drippers and wall anchors support the pole from the pot to the wall.
Best suited for

Indoor climbing aroids and similar plants that will remain on their support for long-term vertical growth, including Monsteras, Philodendrons, Epipremnums, Scindapsus and Rhaphidophoras.

  • S: Cuttings and compact climbers.
  • M: Smaller-leaved climbers such as Monstera adansonii and Epipremnum aureum.
  • L: Climbing Philodendrons such as melanochrysum and verrucosum.
  • XL: Large, heavy climbers such as Monstera deliciosa and large-growing Philodendrons.

Choose for the plant you want to grow, not only its current size. Starting a vigorous climber on a suitably sized system reduces the need to separate established roots from an undersized pole later.

Choose front-opening moss poles instead if regular root access, propagation, air layering or future plant removal matters more than maximum rigidity and moisture retention.

Anchor compatibility: Use S, M2, L3 or XL3 with the matching classic anchor. A matching classic rapid dripper must correspond to both the pole size and closing position. All stacked sections must use the same size and position.

How to use it
  1. Plan the complete setup: Allow space for the root ball, pole and classic anchor. A plant in a 10 cm pot may need a 14–16 cm standard aroid pot once support is added.
  2. Assemble the pole: Select the closing position required by your classic anchor and classic rapid dripper.
  3. Add the filling: Use long-fibre sphagnum moss or moss pole filling mix. Keep it even and aerated rather than tightly compressed.
  4. Anchor before planting: A matching classic anchor is strongly recommended. Install it in the empty compatible standard aroid pot before adding substrate.
  5. Position the plant correctly: Place the stem’s aerial-root side against the open front. Secure the main stem with a plant tie, leaving leaves and petioles free.
  6. Extend early: Add an identical section before new roots reach the top. Recheck stability after every extension and add a wall anchor to tall or forward-heavy setups.

Water from the top and keep the filling evenly moist, not permanently saturated. A matching classic rapid dripper spreads water across the upper filling and can deliver correctly diluted mineral fertiliser to roots inside the pole.

In a self-watering setup, a self-watering wick supports moisture movement from below, but the upper pole may still require top watering. Fertilise from above because sphagnum moss and moss pole filling mix are not complete sources of plant nutrition. Watch the pot, saucer or reservoir while watering to prevent overflow.

What’s included
  • 1 pole: One unfilled moss pole.
  • 5 poles: Five unfilled moss poles and one free 2 m plant tie.
  • 10 poles: Ten unfilled moss poles and three free 2 m plant ties.

All poles in a pack have the selected size and colour. Poles arrive flat and require assembly.

Dimensions and approximate dry sphagnum per pole:

  • S: 30 × 4.5 cm; approximately 3 cm deep; 15 g moss.
  • M: 35 × 6 cm; approximately 3.5–5.5 cm deep; 30 g moss.
  • L: 40 × 8 cm; approximately 4.5–8 cm deep; 50 g moss.
  • XL: 60 × 10 cm; approximately 5–9 cm deep; 100 g moss.

Depth varies with the selected closing position. Actual filling quantity varies with the medium and packing density.

Colours and materials: Crystal clear is PET. Clear matte, white and black are polypropylene.

Sphagnum moss, moss pole filling mix, standard aroid pots, classic anchors and classic rapid drippers are not included.
