Why and when to use self-watering pots

The PlantScraper Self-Watering Aroid Pots are designed to provide consistent moisture, strong aeration, and full root visibility in one integrated growing system.

The lower reservoir stores water while the pot structure regulates moisture through capillary action, reducing watering frequency and preventing overwatering.

These pots are ideal for aroids, semi-hydro setups, and mineral substrates, while still working with organic mixes when properly managed.

The transparent body allows you to monitor root health, moisture levels, and growth in real time.

Understanding the self-watering system

Water is stored in the bottom reservoir, separated from the root zone.

Moisture moves upward through:

  • Capillary action from the substrate
  • Optional cotton wick when needed (recommended, specially for bigger pot sizes or chunky mixes)

The updated design prevents substrate from falling into the reservoir, keeping the system cleaner and more stable.

Wicks are optional in smaller sizes and recommended for 18 cm and 21 cm pots depending on substrate and environment.

Materials, ventilation, and practical notes

Made from durable recyclable PP plastic, designed for long-term indoor use.

Key structural features:
Eight rows of side ventilation slits
Anti-spiral root structure
Transparent walls for root monitoring
Integrated removable water reservoir

Substrate recommendations:
• Mineral substrates work best for self-watering setups
• Organic mixes require careful watering control
• For larger pots, use coarser mineral substrate to prevent material loss through drainage openings

Maintenance:
• Clean reservoir periodically
• Monitor root growth through the transparent walls

Ø21 cm × 23 cm

Updated design notice

The central opening between the pot and reservoir has been sealed in the latest version to prevent substrate from falling into the water reservoir.

This change does not affect the self-watering performance. The system continues to function through capillary action and optional wick use.

Some older tutorials or social media videos may still show the previous version. The current design is cleaner, more stable, and easier to maintain.
