What this product is

The PlantScraper Anchor Set with Self-Watering System is a complete stabilization and hydration system for training climbing plants long-term. It combines a self-watering aroid pot, a moss pole anchor, and a Classic Line D-shape moss pole into one integrated setup designed to support vertical growth, root hydration, and long-term structural stability.

This system works best when used from the beginning of training. If a plant is already very large or fully grown, it is usually better to take cuttings and start over rather than forcing an anchor and moss pole onto an established structure.

Why and when to use a self-watering anchor set

Climbing plants become heavier and less stable as they grow. Regular pots do not secure vertical structures, which often leads to leaning or toppling over time.

The anchor physically locks the moss pole to the pot, transferring the plant’s weight into the anchor and container instead of relying on substrate alone. This provides immediate stability from day one while the self-watering system ensures consistent base moisture.

Because hydration relies on root development and capillary action, the system may take some time to reach full efficiency. Once established, roots receive stable moisture without waterlogging.

For this system, pure sphagnum moss is strongly recommended, not moss pole mix.

Compatibility, pot sizing, and set naming

This anchor set is engineered to work as one unified system.

  • Designed exclusively for PlantScraper Classic Line D-shape moss poles
  • Not compatible with front-opening moss poles
  • Not compatible with non-PlantScraper pots or moss poles

Pot sizing is critical for stability and performance

  • When using an anchor, always size up your pot. The recommended increase is 4 to 8 cm in diameter compared to a regular setup. Example: A plant in a 10 cm pot should be upgraded to 18 cm when adding an anchor.
  • Extra space is required for the anchor, the root system, and proper water circulation in the reservoir.

Understanding set naming

Each set name combines the moss pole size and the self-watering aroid pot diameter.

  • The letter refers to the moss pole size
  • The number refers to the pot diameter in centimeters
  • Example: M15 means an M size moss pole with a 15 cm self-watering aroid pot
Watering, fertilization, and materials

This system is designed to handle constant moisture, fertilization, and long-term indoor use.

  • The anchor is made from PETG plastic for strength and water resistance.
  • The self-watering aroid pot is made from PET plastic.
  • A wick is included for capillary water transfer.

Even though this is a self-watering system, drippers are strongly recommended.

  • Self-watering pots hydrate from below
  • Drippers hydrate the moss pole from the top, where aerial roots grow
  • This creates complete vertical hydration
  • Drippers also make fertilizing the moss pole easy and precise

Dripper size selection for anchored self-watering sets

  • S set uses S dripper
  • M set uses M2 dripper
  • L set uses L3 dripper
  • XL set uses XL3 dripper
FAQ and good to know
  • Sphagnum moss is not included
  • Moss shown in images is for display purposes only
  • Designed for indoor use
  • Best suited for climbing aroids and similar plants
  • A long-term setup for growers who want stability, control, and low maintenance

Important growing principles

  • Climbing plants are trained long-term, not supported temporarily. Garden ties are essential to guide growth
  • Moss poles, anchors, and pots must be chosen based on the plant’s future size, not its current size
  • Starting too small leads to repotting, rebuilding, and stress later. Large climbers like Monsteras should start directly on XL moss poles, even when young
  • Stability is not an upgrade. Anchoring should be planned from day one
  • Moss poles must always be watered from the top and fertilized regularly, as moss contains no nutrients
  • Moss poles should be extended in advance. Once roots reach the top, extending becomes difficult
  • A high-quality mineral mix with proper drainage is non-negotiable for the pot
  • If you already have a fully grown plant, taking cuttings and restarting is usually the cleanest solution when transitioning to a moss pole
