What this product is

Our stackable moss poles are designed for indoor climbing plants, supporting vertical growth and encouraging the development of aerial roots. They function as a living rooting surface, not just a physical support, allowing plants to naturally attach and thrive. As a reusable alternative to coco or wooden poles, they are built to grow together with your plant over time.

Why PlantScraper moss poles

Our moss poles are designed around how climbing plants actually grow. The D-shape structure keeps aerial roots in direct contact with moisture, while the closed back and controlled ventilation slow down drying and reduce mess. The system is built to be stable, modular, and visually clean, making it suitable for both plant health and modern interiors.

  • D-shape design presses roots directly against the moss
  • Front-only moisture zone where roots actually develop
  • Slower drying than round or fully ventilated poles
  • Stackable system that grows with your plant instead of being replaced
Sizes and dimensions

Choose moss pole size based on the plant’s future growth, not its current size. Larger poles hold more moss, retain moisture longer, and create a more stable rooting environment.

  • S Moss Poles - 29.8 × 4.5 × ~3 cm, 1 closing position
Best for cuttings and very young plants that will not develop large leaves
  • M Moss Poles - 35 × 6 × ~3.5 to 5.5 cm, 3 closing positions
For juvenile and establishing plants with small to medium sized leaves
  • L size - 40 × 7.8 × ~4.5 to 8 cm, 4 closing positions
Ideal for Philodendrons and active climbers
  • XL size - 58 × 9.8 × ~5 to 9 cm, 4 closing positions
Best for large or fast growing plants like Monsteras

Important note
Installing a moss pole on an already grown plant is difficult. For large or mature plants, taking cuttings and starting over is often the cleanest and safest solution.

Closing positions explained

Closing positions define how wide a Classic Line moss pole is closed. Each position changes the pole depth and internal volume, allowing different rooting and moisture conditions.

Closing positions are optional except when an anchor is used. In that case, the closing position is not a choice. The anchor is designed to lock the pole into a specific geometry so weight, leverage, and alignment are handled correctly. Using a different position will result in instability or poor fit.

Correct closing position when using an anchor

  • S size: only one closing position exists
  • M size: use M2 (middle one)
  • L size: use L3 (second largest one)
  • XL size: use XL3 (second largest one)

When stacking extensions, all poles must be the same size and closed in the same position to maintain alignment and long-term stability.

Sphagnum / Moss Pole Mix capacity

L size
• Sphagnum moss capacity around 40 to 60 g
• Moss pole mix capacity around 1.1 to 1.7 L

XL size

FAQ and good to know

PlantScraper moss poles are designed for long-term training, not temporary support. Planning your setup correctly from the beginning makes growth easier, more stable, and avoids rebuilding later.

  • Climbing plants should be trained long-term, not supported temporarily. Garden ties help guide growth correctly
  • Moss poles, anchors, and pots should be chosen based on the plant’s future size, not its current size. Some components are optional, but anchors and drippers are strongly recommended
  • Starting too small almost always leads to repotting and stress later. Large climbers like Monsteras should start directly on XL moss poles, even when young
  • If you plan to take cuttings often or regularly change pole size, front-opening moss poles are the better option. Classic moss poles are designed for low-maintenance, stable growth
  • Stability should be planned from day one. Anchoring is not an upgrade, it is part of the system
  • Moss poles should be extended in advance. Once roots reach the top, extending becomes difficult without disturbance
  • A high-quality aroid mix with proper drainage is essential for the pot. Drainage is critical for long-term plant health
  • Our systems are designed to grow with the plant, not be replaced as it matures

Practical facts to know

  • Moss is not included
  • Poles are flat shipped and require assembly
  • Always water moss poles from the top
  • Fertilize regularly, as moss and moss pole mix contain no nutrients
  • When stacking, only the same moss pole size can be stacked together and all must use the same closing position
  • When stacking more than 2 extensions, an anchor is strongly recommended
  • Classic moss poles are not compatible with front-opening moss poles or their complements
  • For very mature plants, taking cuttings and restarting is often the cleanest solution
  • Compatible with PlantScraper add-ons such as anchors and drippers
